January 16: Senate panel had agreed to appoint Hillary Clinton as the new External Affairs minister of US.

January 17: Being affected by financial crisis, Zimbabwean government had released 100 Trillion dollar note.

January 18: According to the 'State Of The World Child-2009' survey performed by the UNICEF, up to 40% child marriages are happening in India.

- Israeli prime minister Ehud olmert had announced that they withdraw their attacks from Gaza Strip.

January 19: For the first time, medical scientists of Imperial College London had successfully taped the blood pumping process of Heart.

January 20: Barack Obama sworn in as the 44th President of United States and Joe Biden sworn in as the Vice President.

- External Affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee visited Afghanistan and submitted the Delaram-Jarenz highway which was built by India.

January 21: Hillary Clinton sworn in as the 67th External Affairs minister.

January 25: 'Slumdog Millionaire' had won the Best Producer award which is presented yearly by the 'Producers Guild Of America'.

January 26: 'Slumdog Millionaire' had recently won the title from Screen Actors Guild.
